Hello young women,
My Name is Shimmy
When I was young I was rather clownish and loud which was the perfect masking for my insecurities and fears around my body image. However I figured that I would focus on my education and empower myself through knowledge which in turn eventually paid off when I was awarded a scholarship to study film and acting. My dreams of becoming a film creator and actress paid off but was I entirely happy?
I am now everything I wanted. Successful in my career. My personal life has taken some spiritual changes and I am able to honestly say that the journey of self acceptance is an ongoing process with myself and my body.
This Journey that I have been on has taught me on thing, nothing in my life can change unless I want it to. Action towards change is what is key for me today. I can choose to have sugar or no sugar the choice is mine.
If I could send a message to my younger self I would say…”1. It’s not your business what people think of you. 2. It gets better.”
I would like my fellow women, mothers, daughters, grannies and free spirits to know, “Don’t let your fears and insecurities stop you from living your most authentic life.”
In sharing my story with you all I have learnt is that life keeps revealing itself to me on a daily and I have the choice to participate or not. What I have been reminded off is that I am enough.
